Hello Windows Insiders, we’re excited to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview build to the Dev Channel! As we finalize the product over the next few months, we’ll be working with you to validate the experience. You’ll be able to try many, but not all, of the new features we showed you last week in this preview. We’ll be bringing more features like Chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps to the Microsoft Store in the coming months as they’re ready for you—we’re just getting started on this journey together!

Changes and Improvements –

– [General]
Windows 11 is transitioning from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to Voice Access. WSR is being retired. A dialog box will appear when WSR is opened, directing you to try Voice Access. They’ve also added a banner in Settings > Accessibility > Speak Like Them. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses on-device speech recognition, allowing you to control your PC and create text without an internet connection. It will support multiple languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try in the Beta Channel, as noted above). They recommend that WSR users try it out and start using Voice Access today.

– [Nearby Sharing]
They are introducing the ability to quickly give your device a more friendly name to identify sharing to and from Nearby Sharing in Settings > System > Nearby Sharing.

– [Narrator]
Narrator users can now use Voice Access to open apps, dictate text, and interact with on-screen elements using their voice. Narrator users can use Voice Access to give commands to Narrator using their voice. For example, “speak faster”, “read next line”, etc. To get started, search for “speech access” in Windows search and set it up.

Fixes –

– [Task Manager]
When creating a dump file for a process, the dump file location should now be selectable so you can copy it.

– [Desktops]
We’ve made some improvements to help resolve an issue where the background could be seen jumping around when switching between desktops
